"You are going to have to make sure your child has health care" ?

This is a direct quote of Obama's during the debate. With so many citizens struggling to pay mortgages, gas, utilities and food, how many of them are going to be able to pay a fine for not being able to afford the health care for their kids? Any links you can provide to help in explaining this would be seriously appreciated. I just don't see how fining people who can't afford to insure their kids is going to benefit this country at all."You are going to have to make sure your child has health care" ?I couldn't find ONE REAL ANSWER that TRULY explained what Obama planned to do to make sure that ALL children has health care if elected President. I'll clue those who aren't already aware of this in on a Civics 101 fact... the President can NOT do diddly squat about this UNLESS BOTH HOUSES PRESENT BILLS %26amp; PASS THEM!!



He can promise all these things until he's blue in the face but MOST of them DON'T FALL WITHIN THE REALM OF THE POWER OF THE PRESIDENT ALONE!!



I will tell you what a very SMART democratic governor did in the state where I live several years ago. He was in politics for most of his life and knew the system. He wrote up a bill that that passed both of the State Houses that INSURED THAT ALL KIDS IN OUR STATE... NO MATTER WHAT THEIR INCOME... IF THEIR PARENTS DIDN'T HAVE INSURANCE... THEY COULD BE INSURED THRU THE STATE!



It's called, ------- (the name of my state) Healthy Kids! What you pay for this insurance is based on a sliding pay scale, but always VERY affordable with most paying little to nothing. Then after that you have access to great doctors, prescriptions paid... the whole nine yards!



It is NOT MEDICAID! I think that EVERY STATE SHOULD HAVE A PROGRAM LIKE THIS!! Why should it always be the Federal Government?!"You are going to have to make sure your child has health care" ?

Why do you want your tax money to pay for expesnsive treatment that could have been easily detected as a kid?"You are going to have to make sure your child has health care" ?so you think it's OK not to have health care for your kids? You rather have gas in your tank instead of healthy kids?

I know some really nice people, but as far as common sense in insurance for future problems (which is what health insurance is), they really don't seem to get the concept. Then they end up suffering. It's like they lacked out on the long-term planning gene. Otherwise they are great. But they would really benefit from somebody telling them to look after their heath and that of their kids.

Have you ever tried to explain somebody who needs treatment for leukemia that they really need to try to get health care and if possible health insurance - I have. It's usually too late worrying once you have the expensive disease.
If Obama is offering health care for a child and a parent objects?

look if your job offers it you get it if you don't work the state will pay that's the way the system is so if people freeload they still get the best out there
I think he meant employers have to make sure their employees are supplied health insurance for their children and the employer would have to pay a fine. "You are going to have to make sure your child has health care" ?
That is why his plan is important, he will make sure that option is there for you. Also, that is already been brought up, there will be no fines. NONE, that was a McCain scare tactic that has already been proven false, he has been trying that for a few months now.

What's more harmful to your budget, cheap health insurance that you pay incrementally or a $75,000 hospital bill due to your child's asthma attack?
Relax, the big part of his plan is that it WILL be affordable. Shouldn't everyone have a right to health care, not just rich people?? It wouldn't be something that's outrageous. My guess is a lot of people who have a problem with Obama's plan don't fully understand McCain's - his is MUCH worse.
It [in most states] is very easy to get your children on the state insurance plan if you do not have insurance through your job. You can still make a decent living and have your child qualify.



If Obama gets elected he is NOT going to track down middle and lower income parents and "ticket" them for not insuring their children. He is going to make is so that YOU CAN afford to insure your children.
His whole point is to build the economy back up, bring jobs back to america and force insurance companies and HMO's to lower their costs so we can afford to purchase health care if its not offered through our jobs. The fact that all children should be covered is not a bad thing. Kids are germ incubators. They get sick. They wreck their bikes and break bones. The cost of those health services are crazy without health insurance.




What good is having health insurance if you can't afford the gas to get the child to the hospital, a roof over it's head, water for it to drink, heat, and the very important food for the child! The point is, if citizens are already struggling for those things, then what good will having insurance to for them? It will just take away from something else. There should never be a fine for something like this.
Have you seen what doctors bills, especially hospital bills cost without insurance? Yes I am going to make sure my child has health care because if something happens to her and she needs to go to the hospital I am not paying thousands of dollars to the hospital when i can pay less for insurance.
Obama would expand upon the Schip plan which is already designed to provide insurance for un and under insured children.



As a parent with three children, I never had a problem choosing between health care for my children or gas in my car to go shopping at Wal Mart.


Obama's plan provides health care to uninsured children. McCain thinks it is bad to fine businesses for not providing health care to employees. McCain provides a $5000 tax "credit" but taxes the health care itself, so that businesses (whose employees are often parents) will be forced to drop their health care plan. The net effect of McCain's plan is no health care for children (because the $5000 is not nearly enough to cover serious or preexisting conditions), making the children the losers in the deal.
McCain didn't stretch the truth and Obama followed up after wards on it. Obama didn't even ATTEMPT to dispute the fine, and if you noticed, he didn't say how much the fine is either, as McCain pointed out!
My child does have medical insurance. We planned ahead for our children. We do not spend our money carelessly, or have more than what we need. I cook most of our meals at home. I LOVE home cooked meals. My family have saved up money because they were taught to save for the next generation, and that's what we intend to do. We do not have more than one credit card. We have money in the bank, a huge savings and an inheritance.



So, it is those who do not plan ahead, spend money that they do not have, and make babies just to get welfare checks and free medical who are Obama's sheep.
