Hi, my health visitor is really nosey and told me on the phone that she read a referral from my doctor to a post natal depression appointment.
I have not been diagnosed with postnatal depression nor does my doc think I am suffering but I'm going to prove that I DONT have it. (health visitor seems to think I should given my circumstances)
If she read the referral on my medical file, is she allowed to do this? I'm getting sick of every Tom Dick and Harry gaining access to my medical records without my consent.
She also has been talking to my 5 month old's paed about me without my consent. Is this allowed?
Should she have access to my 5 month old's full medical records? Is my child's health visitor allowed access to my medical records? Or even his?Yes.
Basically she's a health professional and can access your and your sons records.
She's probably not being nosey, just doing her job.
Every Tom Dick and Harry don't have access to your records only those with a legitimate reason to look at them.
Health visitors are a very important link between home and interested professionals.
If you have a complaint contact your local NHS Trust. Is my child's health visitor allowed access to my medical records? Or even his? This issue is governed by the Data Protection Act (DPA). The following link should help you:

I was interested in your question because I had a similar 'intrusion' into my privacy when I was pregnant. A neighbour told me: "I understand you're being induced on Thursday ..." I was totally livid because I hadn't even told my Mum - only my husband and I knew as I didn't want to spoil the element of surprise for everyone else. It turned out that my neighbour's garden backed onto my midwife's garden and she'd been gobbing off about my pregnancy literally over the garden fence! I reported it to the hospital where she was a senior midwife and the hospital director personally called me to apologise and assure me that the matter had been 'dealt with internally'. I think they were terrified I'd go to the press. But I let the matter drop - the NHS didn't need to lose another midwife. Is my child's health visitor allowed access to my medical records? Or even his?yes she is, a health visitor is there to ensure the non medical health of you and your child so any issue that may have an impact on that she should know especially with relation to post natal depression. She is just doing her job
