If you train as a mental health nurse our you still qualified to work as standard nurse?

Hi

I am looking at some graduate nursing courses (UK) and I see that there are 3 option, adult nursing, child nursing or mental health, the mental health fits well with my degree (psychology) but with this type of nursing would I only be able to work with mental health and not in a general hospital setting as well?

ThanksIf you train as a mental health nurse our you still qualified to work as standard nurse? No such thing as a standard nurse.
You would be a mental health nurse and would not be able to practice in areas that require an adult or child qualification, just as those nurses who are not on the register as mental health nurses would not be able to work in an area that requires this qualification. If you want to be qualified in other branches or nursing you have to do the training.
Mental health nurses are not automaically advanced nurses, only those who have taken masters level qualifications are viewed as Advanced Practitioners.

May I suggest you do a bit of homework on nursing and nurses.

By the way, unless you are an EU citizen you can't take any nursing courses leading to a recordable registration. If you train as a mental health nurse our you still qualified to work as standard nurse?Yes you're just an advanced nurse.

You will mostly only see mental health patients, since that's what you were hired for.
