Fiance wont get rid of cat even though its a hazard to our child's health!?

my fiance and i have had this cat for less than 6 months and he will not get rid of it even though our house smells like ammonia from the cat peeing on our carpet! im due any day now to have our child and the cat will not stop urinating everywhere and the smell is so bad it gives me a headache! he works nights and sleeps all day so he isnt here long enough to catch the cat urinating on everything. lately the cat has been clawing at our daughters door trying to get in and one day i didnt shut the door all the way and the cat ran in and tried to pee by her crib and when i yelled at the cat it ran under the crib and tried urinating there! im 9 months pregnant and its hard for me to get up quickly and the cat will pee in the floor and when i go to get up to stop it, it will run right past me and hide under the couch. i dont know if its doing this out of spite bc hes angry my fiance works all the time or whats going on with the cat. i know that the smell and ammonia is horrible for the baby and so does he but he still will not get rid of it! any suggestions?Fiance wont get rid of cat even though its a hazard to our child's health!?Despite how it might appear to you, cats (and other pets) don't do things "out of spite" or to "get you back". These are human ideas. Cats are fairly predictable creatures. They will react in predictable ways to predictable stimuli. This cat sounds very stressed out to me. It may be unsettled because the dynamic in your home has changed because of the baby. You may unconsciously be treating the cat differently now that your priority is your baby, and the cat may be picking up on this.

Also, your cat may not like it's litter tray position or the litter you're using, or, as previously suggested, the cat has a UTI and is associating the pain of urination with the litter tray.

Cats will urinate in the wrong spots for a reason, not just to be "nasty". Either you need to put in some effort with your fiance to find out what's going on and fix it, or you should rehome the cat. Clearly something is not right with the cat and if you aren't in the frame of mind to want to work it out, the cat would be better off somewhere else. In the meantime I would suggest having the carpets professionally cleaned to remove the ammonia.Fiance wont get rid of cat even though its a hazard to our child's health!?
There are good books available on how to deal with cat behavior problems. Why not get one and solve the problem? Cats can even be taught to perform tricks and run agility courses. A cat behaviorist could help you. What have you done to help solve the problem?

If you take the cat to a shelter, it will die. The no-kill shelters are all FULL and so every day they send the surplus animals that people bring in to kill shelters where they are (painfully) killed.

I'm sorry that neither you nor your boyfriend have seen fit to find out what to do about this problem, or even taken the cat to a vet to find out if there is a urinary tract infection. People who are Great Pet Owners usually make Great Parents, and the reverse is, sadly, also true. If your child misbehaves, will you get rid of it also?Fiance wont get rid of cat even though its a hazard to our child's health!?poor litter box traini vs UTI Have you had her checked by the vet?

If no UTI per vet visit, retrain for the box

Confine her to the bathroom with CLEAN box , food water, bedding

play a radio on ow on talk show or ez listening. Visit often Once she has used box consistently expand her territory in the house room by room.

Get an enzymatic cleaner to clean all soiled areas or she will go back to the spots again.

This is a difficult situation being that you are due any day and he sleeps all day.

Kitty would be happier in a new home rather than being stressed at and yelled at and then a baby coming in. Too many changes for all of you right now

Give her a good new home-call the vet or local no kill shelter todayFiance wont get rid of cat even though its a hazard to our child's health!?
That is a seriously unhappy cat! Poor thing. For her own good she should be re-homed immediately. Surely your fiance must realize that the cat is leading a miserable life? Can you get a friend to come get the cat and take it to a no-kill shelter, or something? Don't bother asking your fiance's permission since you know what he'll say. I wouldn't normally advocate this kind of underhandedness but really, the poor cat is suffering. Happy cats don't act like that. Also it's most likely got a UTI and needs medical care which I am willing to bet your fiance isn't interested in providing, either.Fiance wont get rid of cat even though its a hazard to our child's health!?just throw the cat away...or you have to make a cat's house.....Its really not good because you are pregnant right now, trust me...You should have a happy life while pregnant...live in stress can effect your baby development....Fiance wont get rid of cat even though its a hazard to our child's health!?
First of all get the cat to the vet to be checked for UTI. If the cat is not neutered, he needs to be. He could be spraying (if not neutered) or have a serious UTI.

Normally neutered males do not spray but can pee elsewhere when sick with a UTI. There is NO need to get rid of the cat because of the kids. Find out if there is a medical reason for the behavior.
Cats 101...limit stress. Stress can cause a perfectly normal cat to do things you never thought it would do. A parent always yelling at it (you), another one that isn't home... Not a good situation. Yelling at a cat after it does something you don't like doesn't do any good. Take the cat to the vet to rule out any medical issues. You and your fianc茅 took responsibility for the cat, own up to it. Make sure nothing is physically wrong with it. Try two litter boxes, some cats are very particular when it comes to their boxes. If you do decide to give it away, never do it without him knowing. How would you like it? But the poster above did have a good question... What will you do if your kid turns out to be a pistol? Give it away too? Never take the cat to a shelter. It will die.
