An estimated 17,000 children in the United States might have died unnecessarily over nearly two decades because they didn't have health insurance, according to a report from researchers at Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore.
http://www.usnews.com/health/managing-yo鈥?/a>How can Republicans be against health care reform when children have died because they didn't have insurance?Simple, they refuse to accept those figures. They listen to lies and half truths rather than listen to the simple facts on this.
I am always amazed how many Americans seem not to be aware about the real healthcare issues relying instead on FOX and other sources to spread lies about the healthcare system of the USA and those abroad. I mean, if healthcare in nations with universal coverage is so bad, why do they keep it?
Obama wants to make insurance more available to all and change the system so that it gives the American people value for money [1]. He also wants change so that the insurance companies find it harder to get out of paying for treatment. The system he is proposing looks similar to that which works in Taiwan where private companies are involved in providing healthcare [2].
Obama campaigned on reforming the healthcare system. He said he wanted to make insurance more available and he was elected to do this [3].
FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids both for kids aged under one and those under five than western European countries with universal health coverage [4].
FACT 鈥?American insurance companies push up prices and work to stop paying out claims on those they cover [5].
FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet [6].
That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in any western nation with universal health coverage.
If you do not like the policies that Obama was elected to bring in, he can always be voted out of office in 2012. But if you disagree with the facts, please let me know. I am always willing to learn, but please provide proof. None of those who disagree with me have been able to do that so far.
Might have died unnecessarily? Is this from the same thinking that came up with "saved jobs"?
There are people who might have lived had they been riding in a bigger SUV or car.. do we need to provide bigger vehicles to everyone for free? Better yet.. if we all drove tanks, no one would be killed in vehicle collisions, do we all get free tanks and training to drive them?
The point is simple. I don't work my butt off to pay for everyone else. If that's the case, I'll just stop working and get everything for free/cheap. Then it becomes painfully obvious that socialized programs cannot function without the wealth production that Capitalism provides. I paid for college so I could hope to get a better job. I didn't get any free money so it was all done with loans that I'm still paying off.
If you want to reduce health care costs, then great. Let's work on finding ways to reduce health care costs without any negative impact on care quality. Shifting money from one group to simply cover the high costs of others though is not an option. Placing artificial limits on insurance companies which would result in a significant drop in coverage quality is also not an option. How can Republicans be against health care reform when children have died because they didn't have insurance?Republicans measure the value of a person's life according to the wealth of the person, so that saving one rich person is more valuable than saving several thousand poor children.
When you adjust the health statistics for the wealth of the patients, the US health care system is just as efficient as the Canadian or European systems.
It is like paying a little extra to join a country club instead of going to the public pool.
We have a program called CHIP which insure all children if their parents are not capable of affording it.
It is very easy to get. So don't tell me children have dies because of no insurance.
"CHIP has really worked and been very important and insures about 7 million kids in the country," Lesley said. Still, he said, roughly 6.5 million children who are eligible for Medicaid or CHIP remain uninsured -- for whatever reason.
Maybe their parents do not care to file for it.
Wow, your gonna believe this crap! Obama voted against lifting mandates when he was a senator - that made costs go UP and provided less insurance for people. This liberal take over plan is only about Power! They could care less about people! Thats what they use and want people to believe! Im 44 years old and see thru these liberals - they lie everytime they open their mouth!
Republicans do have plans and have tried for YEARS to lift mandates across state lines to make insurance CHEAPER! Liberals stopped it! If that passed then they could get control and try to destroy the private sector. They want govt to control healthcare! Republicans tried to reform and change the lawsuit problem that rises costs as well- Liberals are the Trial Lawyers and the scammers! Most Lawyers destroy our system and steal money from doctors and us the people.
Might have?
Interesting way to put it. 'Fraid not.
And if they didn't, why didn't they? The poor have medicare. Those who do not are wealthy enough to obtain insurance.
Besides, are you really suggesting we bankrupt the country and potentially kill even more children and adults with the steaming pile of dog crap that government run health care is?
I've lived with that, mate. I've lived and worked under your idea of government run health care. You don't have a clue and yet that's not stopping you. What a liberal you are!
No one is against Health Care Reform. Many people are against the current legislation, however, as it doesn't provide workable solutions to the real problems.
I am 100% in favor of health care reform. But it needs to be reform that solves the actual problems, not reform that just creates more bureacracy and room for corruption.
I am a Republican and I'm not against health care reform. Only Obama's version of it. Why is everything so black and white to some people? I don't believe the government is very good at managing their current programs much less adding to them. Anyone been to the Post Office or DMV lately? How was your service? How well have they done with Social Security? So lets give them more? Geez...What I am for is working really hard and paying for my own way. Oh and I expect others to do the same.
And according to the same report: "roughly 6.5 million children who are eligible for Medicaid or CHIP remain uninsured -- for whatever reason." So it seems that it's not a matter of reforming the insurance, or offering a public option. If a problem already exists and people don't want it, why create yet another program?
"Conservatives" are hypocrites!
They don't want unwanted pregnancies terminated,
yet
it's OK for millions to suffer without health insurance
it's OK to LET those people die!
it's OK to kill tens of thousands of Iraqis
not to mention 4,000 American troops
on a WASTED war in Iraq,
that had no justification and NO BENEFIT!
Yes, all of us Republicans are heartless bastards. (Can you see my eyes rolling?) Emergency rooms do not turn uninsured people away. There are children's' hospitals like St. Jude that are free of charge for families who can't afford care, and accepts patients without health insurance. I am a Partner In Hope with St. Jude, with my monthly donation....are you?
Republicans are not against health care/insurance reform. They are against Obama Care.
Again nobody wants kids to die.
Question is WHY are the PARENTS of those kids having kids in the first place if they are not prepared and able to support and provide for their care and welfare!!!
Why is their irresponsibility MY problem.
I suppose i can run up and slap a hamburger out of your hand because you might get fat or heart disease???
And you forgot to add that these are usually the same people who are against abortion. I guess the fetus only matter while it is inside the woman, once is born if it gets sick it is their own problem to deal with. Again, coherence and common sense has never been part of the conservative agenda. Hypocrisy form their part I鈥檇 say.
Notice the key word is MIGHT
They MIGHT have died because they didn't have insurance.
Or maybe because their parents were negligent and didn't take them to the hospital?
Why don't you whine about the millions of unborn babies that have died because of abortion?
And children die when they do have health insurance. The report you cite is pure speculation. It uses the term "might" which is nothing more than conjecture. The uninsured do indeed get medical care if they are willing to go to clinics and ER's.
Republicans are not against health care reform... so your question has no point. Repubs are against govt takeover of personal liberty and choices. The repub reform options have been rejected by the Left, and the Dem reforms have been rejected by the American people.
BECAUSE THERE RIGHT WING IDIOTS.
These neo con rednecks think nobody dies that doesn't have health care when 100 thousand people die every year because they don't have health care.
IF REPUBLICANS WEREN'T AGAINST HEALTH CARE THEY WOULD PASS IT WHEN THEY WERE IN POWER.
SO THERE LYING WHEN THEY SAY THERE NOT AGAINST HEALTH CARE.
Wrong you have yet to produce on death certificate that states cause of death no inurance, , hospitals treat the uninsured by the way go to an emergency room and see for your self
Except those numbers are false, another Liberal lie/exaggeration.
Federal Law provides health insurance (through the States) for minors whose parents cannot afford it. Both the State and the Federal government pick up the tab.
Over 20 years......it's over 20 years, or 850 a year. Not to sound cold,m but compared to 300 million Americans, 850 deaths is not enough to make such a radical change for the other 299,999,000 of us.
How can you make such a statement knowing the bill will cover abortions. A vote against it is a vote for our children. Anything else I can straighten you out about , don't be afraid to ask we're always here.
It's because Republicans only support government spending if it's on some sort of unnecessary war.
And to the person who said that "50 million children have died since abortion became legal." -- How can something die if it was never living?
It was obviously the Children's choice to die.
What's a few thousand deaths when I can have the right to not get health insurance and make the rest of the country pay for my catastrophic care?
50 million abortions have been done since roe v wade. how can you say you are protecting children? your logic is flawed. and the word "MIGHT" should have been emphasized a bit more.
Baltimore? A skewed Liberal estimate lie...How about Obama's job estimates, climate change estimates, sea rise estimates...Show me any estimate or ANYTHING you people do right! You're natural born losers and deserve your place at the bottom!
Becuse they werent aborted. Thats the only kind republicans care about. Otherwise, Repyublicans like killing in war death penalty and ignorance.
Why are you bothering us with ths bogus study?
http://www.john-goodman-blog.com/does-la鈥?/a>
Oh you are confused...
You see they only care about "children" when they are still inside of a person. Once the child is outside the vagina the caring stops.
If corporations could breed and have children they would be concerned but you are just talking about children of people..
Name one Republican who is against Healthcare Reform.
"17,000 children in the United States might have died unnecessarily over nearly two decades "
Isn't that like 850 a year?
I will repeat this one more time.....pay attention this time.....we are not against reform...we are against government run health care
