Child's Health Insurance through military father...?

If my son has had his health insurance through his father's employer (military tricare) since he was born, and we have not yet got a divorce, is there any way I can request that the child stays on that insurance? Or does the father have to have custody of the child in order for him to have that insurance? Make sure it is written in to your divorce agreement that the father will continue to provide medical insurance for the child, just to make sure there won't be any problems in the future.
