What exactly do Health Visitors do?

Our HV weighs our baby, and demonstrated useless massage. When her weight dropped, we were referred to a paediatrician via the GP. I thought HVs were supposed to be Child Health experts?What exactly do Health Visitors do?They are supposed to monitor the progress of you and the baby, and answer any problems you may have. I didn`t find mine very helpful though, and my daughter who has a 3 year old and had another baby 6 weeks ago thinks they`re a bit of a waste of time as well.What exactly do Health Visitors do?
They interfere. All my hv wanted to do was tell me what i could and couldn't do with my own baby although i already had a healthy 5 year old. Stopped letting her in in the end.What exactly do Health Visitors do?They are really just a first point of call for you if you have any problems, they then refer you to the appropriate specialist to deal with the problem. When I was a first time Mum, I found my health visitor was a great help to me for the first few months. Just to have someone other than family actually telling me that I was doing a good job and giving little tips was fantastic. After she finished doing home visits, I knew that she was always on the other end of the phone and one day phoned her up and broke down in tears. Turned out that I was suffering from Post Natal Depression and she came straight round and I had a good old cry. She referred me to my GP and also arranged counselling. I owe a lot to her, I know that they are all different ( a bit like midwives really) but my experience was a good one. Treat them like a human being and don't think that they are there to pick fault with you.
Ive had 4 children,my children have had 10 between them,and do you know ,i'm still asking the same question all these years later,idiots the lot of them...and overpaid.What exactly do Health Visitors do?Mine was useless too, i dont see the point of themWhat exactly do Health Visitors do?
I like my hv and cant fault her, infact with all four of my children and different hv I have never come across one I didnt like (lucky I guess) my hv have always reassured me when I had concerns, offered guidance and support and where there if I needed them

My health visitor was fantastic I owe alot to her and I am looking forward to having her again with this baby. When you are a first time mum there is nothing worse than interfering family members telling you how to look after your baby. Each one has a different opinion and it can leave you quite scared and confused. If I ever had a concern my health visitor would help and reassure me all the way she was great. Also it was a professional opinion not a guess.
basically they`re there to make sure that the family is ok and is settleing down together ok, also to sort any "issues" -damn i love that word.

I`ve had a mixed bunch with my health visitors - some good some so useless i wondered the the hidden candid cameras were.
lol, i aint evn had my baby yet and already h8 the HV. she came round the other week n was just picking holes in our home!! the cow "this isn't safe @ all" (at the time 6 months pregnant, stuff me doing it, thats what the dads for now!) and "oh this dog suld prob b rehomed, its losing too much fur all over the place" the bloody cheak! my dogs always lived wiv us, is on her last legs anyway...and she doesn't have much fur left TO lose!!!! stupid women...grrrrrrrrrrrr. just wanted 2 slap her. oh and according to her ALL my light switches MUST be changed to dimmer switches....ummm....NO!
